Rates: the year in one paragraph
Thirty-year fixed rates averaged 6.69% across the NAR survey year (survey year July 2024–June 2025) and have moved in a band around the high-6s since; the latest weekly average is 6.95%. What that means practically: payment-first budgets matter more than headline price, and refinancing is a live option to price in rather than a promise to count on.
What buyers are doing
88% of buyers purchased through an agent and 43% found theirs through a referral — trust travels by word of mouth even when the search happens online. First-time buyers remain a large share of the market and lean hardest on financing clarity.
What sellers are doing
91% of sellers used an agent, and only a small fraction sold without one. Since the 2024 commission-rule changes (explained in our commission guide), seller decisions about offering buyer-agent compensation have become an explicit strategy choice rather than a default.
Method & honesty notes
- All figures on this page are national context with their source and date printed alongside.
- We do not publish local price statistics until they come from a verified local data feed for our service area.
- Rates are weekly averages, not offers; your quote depends on credit, property, and program.
